Before a movie reaches the cinemas, it goes through Censor Board. A lot of Indian movies have to suffer from cut of scenes because Censor Board gives a red signal to them for being weird or against the religious values. 10. Fire (1996)
When the Fire movie was released to cinemas, a number of Hindu fundamentalists attacked and claimed that the story is of lesbian relationship which is not good for the society. Later on, the movie was sent back to the Censor Board, but it was re-released with no cuts.
9. Black Friday (2004)
The Black Friday was released in 2004. The movie is based on the 1993 Bombay attacks. Upon its release, it was banned by the Bombay High Court. The hearings took place for a couple of months, and finally it was presented on February 2007.
8. Water (2005)
Water stars John Abraham who had to face a lot of criticism during the shooting from Hindu organizations in Varanasi. The people destructed the movie sets. Soon the government in Uttar Pradesh ordered to stop the shooting of this movie. Then it was shot in Sri Lanka, and released in March 2007.
7. Main Hoon Rajinikanth (2014)
Rajnikanth went to Madras High Court to file a case against the release of Main Hoon Rajnikanth. He claimed that the movie has violated his personal rights. Later on, the filmmakers were ordered to not use Rajinikanth’s name and images. The director of the movie was Faisal Saif. The movie was titled as Main Hoon Rajini.

The documentary which tells the story of 2012 Delhi gang rape, was banned because people claimed that it has many rap scenes. This led the movie directors to stop its release, but it was uploaded to YouTube.
5. Aandhi (1975)
Directed by Gulzar, Aandhi is a 1975 movie. It stars Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen. This movie was banned during the Emergency by Indira Gandhi. Later on, it was released in 1977, after Janata Party came in power.
4. Kissa Kursi Ka
Kissa Kursi Ka is a movie directed by Amit Nahata. It was banned by the Congress government because it mocked Emergency. Sanjay Gandhi’s supporters had burnt the movie posters and its copies. Later on, the movie was remade with new case.
3. Bandit Queen (1994)
After Phoolan Devi challenged the authenticity of Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen, the movie was banned temporarily by Delhi High Court. It stars Seema Biswas in the lead role.
2. Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love (1996)
Directed by Mira Nair, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love was banned by Censor Board due to having many hot scenes. The movie wasn’t release till a two-minute scene was cut from it.

The Unfreedom was denied due to having so many hot scenes and showcasing religious fundamentalism in India. The Board claimed that the director, Raj Amit Kumar’s movie can cause serious clashed between Hindus and Muslims.
